How single-dose storage works
Instead of opening your coffee bag every morning and exposing the remaining beans to fresh air, you portion out the entire bag into individual tubes the moment you open it. Each tube gets sealed with a one-way valve cap: as the freshly roasted beans release CO2, the gas pushes upward through the valve and displaces the lighter oxygen, leaving the beans in a CO2-rich environment. The beans are only exposed to air twice in their lifetime: once when you fill the tube, and once when you grind. Weber’s testing shows that this passive CO2 displacement preserves freshness far more effectively than repeatedly opening and closing a bag or canister, and that ambient room light is not a meaningful factor as long as you avoid direct sunlight.
What makes this different from the Bulk or Shorty
The Polymer Bean Cellar set is the complete countertop package. It includes the oak caddy and stainless steel funnel, so you have a tidy station for dosing and storing. The tubes are the tall, narrow format sized for 18–22 g espresso doses and designed to sit upright in the caddy. If you need larger 30 g filter doses, look at the Shorty Bean Cellar. If you already have a caddy and just need more tubes, the Bulk packs are the more economical option.
Frosted vs. Carbon
Both colors are functionally identical. Carbon blocks all ambient light, though Weber notes that light is not a meaningful freshness concern compared to air exposure. If you want to identify coffees at a glance, Frosted is more practical. If you prefer the darker look or want total light blocking, go with Carbon.
