Product details

The Profitec MOVE is a compact dual boiler espresso machine built in Bammental, Germany, and the successor to the Pro 300. Separate brew and steam boilers, each with its own PID, let you pull a shot and steam milk at the same time with no mode switching in between. Fast Heat-Up brings it to brew temperature in about 9 minutes.

This is the standard MOVE, finished in powder-coated black with black handles and knobs. The same machine is also offered as the MOVE Exclusive Line with handcrafted American walnut handles, which Profitec supplies through showroom dealers only.

  • Boilers: 0.4 L brass brew boiler, 0.75 L stainless steel steam and hot water boiler with copper heating element
  • Temperature control: Independent PID on both boilers, steam boiler switchable off to run as a single boiler
  • Controls: OLED display, programmable dosing buttons, adjustable pre-infusion, shot counter, ECO mode, on/off timer
  • Heat-up: Approx. 9 minutes (Fast Heat-Up mode)
  • Footprint: 270 × 445 × 375 mm (W × D × H), 18.7 kg
  • Included: Modular bottomless portafilter with silicone spouts, three baskets, blind filter, tamper

Dual boiler performance in a 27 cm footprint

Most dual boiler machines ask for a lot of counter. The MOVE asks for 27 cm of width and 44.5 cm of depth, roughly what a mid-size heat exchanger occupies, and still gives you two independent boilers. The 0.4 L brass brew boiler sits inside an optimised ring brew group rather than an E61, so there is no thermosyphon to wait on and no cooling flush routine to learn. The 0.75 L stainless steel steam boiler feeds both the steam wand and a dedicated hot water tap, and can be switched off entirely when you are drinking espresso only, which cuts idle power draw.

Both boilers are PID controlled and set independently, so brew temperature and steam pressure are separate decisions rather than a compromise between the two. A dual gauge reports steam boiler and pump pressure side by side. The OLED display carries the shot timer, shot counter, ECO mode and programmable on and off times, and the dosing buttons are programmable with or without pre-infusion.

Coming from a single boiler

The practical difference is the waiting. On a single boiler machine a cappuccino means brewing, waiting for the boiler to reach steam temperature, frothing, then waiting again for it to come back down before the next shot. The MOVE removes that entirely: brew and steam are available at the same moment, every time. Two or three milk drinks back to back is comfortable, which is the point at which single boiler machines start to feel like work.

What it does not have is a plumb-in option. The 2.8 L reservoir is the only supply, so refilling stays part of the routine. The pump is a vibration pump rather than a rotary, which is what keeps the machine this compact and this quiet, though it is audible in a way a rotary is not.

The modular portafilter

The MOVE ships bottomless, with silicone attachments that convert it to one or two spouts in seconds. Bottomless is worth using while you are dialling in a new grinder or coffee, since channelling and uneven distribution are visible the moment they happen rather than inferred from a disappointing cup. Profitec’s own walkthrough covers how the system comes apart and goes back together:

The handles and the steam and hot water knobs are a modular system too, so the walnut parts fitted to the Exclusive Line version can be retrofitted to this machine later if you change your mind about the look.

What to pair it with

A dual boiler machine is only as consistent as what feeds it, and the grinder matters more than the machine at this level. The Profitec Twist A54 is the natural companion, sharing the MOVE’s compact footprint and stepless adjustment, with programmable single and double doses so the grinder workflow matches the machine’s.

Water is the other half. The MOVE’s tank takes a built-in filter adapter, but if you want control rather than filtration alone, start from a near-zero base and build up: the ZeroWater 1.7 L filtration jug strips tap water to almost nothing and includes a TDS meter, which also tells you when scale risk is creeping back into your routine. Norwegian tap water is soft in much of the country, so this is as much about taste as about protecting the boilers.
