Why replace the stock Sculptor burrs
The Sculptor 078 ships with Timemore’s Turbo burrs, designed for pour over through to French press, and the 078S with Timemore’s own flat burrs for espresso and filter. This SSP set gives either grinder SSP’s multi-purpose geometry, which leans towards clarity in both espresso and filter. Timemore rates the Red Speed coated 78 mm burrs in its 078SSP at over 6,000 kg of coffee, and the coating also lowers friction during grinding.
078 or 078S?
The set fits both, but the two grinders adjust differently. Owners report that the 078S moves in finer steps, around 3 µm per notch against 5 µm on the 078, which makes it the better base if you want to pull espresso with the MP burrs. The 078 gives more range at the coarse end, which suits a filter-first setup.
Fitting
Swapping burrs on the Sculptor means opening the grind chamber: the outer burr is held to its plate by two screws, and the rotating carrier has to be seated correctly on reassembly, so follow Timemore’s disassembly instructions step by step. Re-zero after fitting and give the burrs a few kilos to settle.
The same MP geometry is also available in 64 mm as the SSP 64mm Multi Purpose Red Speed Burr Set, for grinders such as the DF64, Fellow Ode and Lagom P64.
