The cup on top of the machine
The Linea Classic was La Marzocco’s workhorse café machine for thirty years, and the red Linea logo on a white cup became the default coffee-bar cup in the specialty scene. This is that cup. The body is thick porcelain with a slightly tapered bowl and a wide, flat saucer, made by IPA Porcellane near Florence. Thick walls mean it holds heat well once preheated, and the shape is the one most baristas learned to pour latte art into.
Cappuccino size, by the old definition
180 ml sounds small next to the 300 ml cups many cafés use now, but it is the size the drink was designed around: roughly one part espresso to two parts milk, with the foam filling the last centimetre. If you steam at home with something like the Subminimal NanoFoamer V2, this cup makes it easy to keep the ratio right, since there is simply no room to over-milk it.
