Product details

The Flair 49 PRO is a mechanical, lever-action espresso maker built to provide direct control over the extraction process. Designed around a 49mm portafilter basket, it offers a distinct brewing dynamic compared to standard 58mm systems, focusing on a deeper coffee bed and a more forgiving dial-in process. With no electronic heating elements, the machine relies entirely on manual pre-heating, keeping the setup straightforward, durable, and free of electrical components.

Key Features

  • 49mm Portafilter System: The smaller diameter and deeper basket increase flow resistance. This naturally reduces the risk of channeling, handles lower doses (typically 12–14g) effectively, and generally requires a slightly coarser grind than wider baskets.
  • Seamless Back-to-Back Brewing: Unlike earlier models in the PRO lineage, the 49 PRO features a fixed cylinder and piston with a stainless steel valve plunger. This eliminates the need to disassemble the brew head between shots, significantly streamlining workflow.
  • 100% Stainless Steel Brew Path: From the water chamber to the cup, no plastic touches the water or coffee. The hollow stainless steel plunger is specifically engineered to maximize thermal efficiency during your manual pre-heating routine.
  • Full Extraction Control: An elongated lever with a T-grip allows you to manually manage pressure from pre-infusion up to 9 BAR, guided in real-time by the integrated pressure gauge.

The 49mm Geometry

First popularized in the 1960s, the 49mm basket has seen a modern resurgence among home brewers. The narrower, taller puck offers more tolerance when adjusting grind sizes, reducing the impact of minor inconsistencies. This specific geometry is highly capable of producing shots with a heavier body and rich mouthfeel, making it particularly well-suited for medium to dark roasts or longer, high-extraction shots.

every new model and the quality drops significaly. thiw new one is the worst flair i have 1) the drip tray is plastic—-not metal not even silicone —plastic—-i guess they saved a few pennies here………and it does not even stay in place….it moves back and forth 2)all the hinges—and i mean all of them have HUGE tolerances—many mm……cheaply made…. 3)the lever part doesnt fix with the base steadily——i have tighten the screw so much that i litle bit more and it will destroy the threads 4) in 58x the hinge to the plunger is secured with a plastic pivot. i have it a year no problem and if it brakes ……..i mean 0.01$ price. in the 49 there is a screw…….i suppose it will not brake but in a bit of time it will wear everything off……due to friction…..and if you want to take the plunger off you will need a rench i mean a tool….what an inconvinience? 5) the brew chamber is as thin walled as it can possibly be before it cranbles and is set in place with some ugly two halves that are bolted in the body—–so when you go to the hardware shop dont forget to get a tool for them as well 6)the T-shaped handle is made for dwarf handed people……..only one finger at each side…..so small………i suppose they saved a few $ on this as well 7) you put the fannel in the portafilter you fill with the coffee……and God if you try to shake it you end up with a mess…….so you grip it with fear and then the —–Dwarf sized tamper ….redicules….—–wont fit in the fannel ……so you take the fannel off spil some more coffee and then use the tamper—–8) ………and it goes on and on…… so badly made……so cheap…..(it should cost 100$ not 400$) you know that managers and accountants disigned it……to save every possible penny( i mean with a $ you buy a silicone something for your kitchen…….and they used plastic………i stop here i am really upset
