A direct replacement for Aiden’s carafe

This is the same carafe and lid that ship with the Aiden Precision Coffee Maker, sold as a spare part. The body is double-walled stainless steel with a vacuum between the walls, which is why Aiden has no hot plate: the coffee holds its temperature instead of continuing to cook on a heating element, which is what produces the flat, bitter taste associated with older drip machines.

The mouth is deliberately wide so the inside can be reached with a brush or a cloth. Coffee oils and tannins will stain the interior over time, particularly if a batch is left standing, so emptying and rinsing it after each pot is worth the habit.

The magnet in the carafe

Aiden detects whether the carafe is in position using a magnet built into the carafe itself. Pull the carafe mid-brew and the machine pauses; put it back and brewing resumes. Two practical consequences: a non-Fellow carafe will not work in its place, and the carafe should never be set on an electronic scale, since the magnet can throw off the reading or damage the load cell.

How long it holds heat

Fellow states the carafe keeps coffee above 43 °C (110 °F) for up to two hours. In practice, insulation works best when the vessel is full and pre-warmed. A small volume in a cold carafe loses heat noticeably faster, and several reviewers have flagged this as the machine’s weakest point. Rinsing the carafe with hot water before brewing, and brewing closer to a full batch, both make a measurable difference.

Care

Hand wash the carafe and lid in warm, soapy water using a soft-bristled brush. Do not put either part in the dishwasher: the heat and detergent can damage the seal between the walls and dull the exterior finish. Skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. For built-up staining, a coffee equipment cleaner such as Cafiza or an oxygen-based cleaner, left to soak and then rinsed thoroughly, works better than scrubbing.
