What the large jar changes

The jar that ships with a C40 holds around 40 g of beans, which is enough for a single V60 or AeroPress and not much more. The large jar doubles that to roughly 80 g. In practice that means you can weigh out a full batch brew dose in one go, grind without stopping to empty the catch jar, or pre-load enough beans for two or three brews before leaving the house. Everything else stays the same: it threads onto the grinder body exactly like the standard jar, and the lid seals it for transport.

Comandante keeps every polymer jar at a uniform weight, so you can tare one jar on a scale and reuse that figure across all of them. That is mostly a convenience for people pre-weighing several doses at once, at home or at a competition.

Polymer compared to glass

Polymer wins on durability and weight. Drop a glass jar on a tiled floor and it is finished; the polymer version survives packing, camping trips and being knocked off a counter. The thick walls also insulate well enough that the jar works as a cup for the brew itself without burning your fingers. The trade-offs are that polymer scratches with years of daily use where glass does not, and that it carries more static, so at finer grind settings you will see more grounds clinging to the walls. Comandante points out that the same static makes chaff easier to lift out of ground coffee, which is a fair point but not the whole story.

Travel use

This is the jar to pick if the grinder goes in a bag. Paired with the KaffeBox Travel Top for the Comandante C40, which closes off the hopper so beans and dust stay put, you get a sealed grinder at both ends. If you would rather have several smaller containers than one large one, the standard 40 g polymer bean jar comes in a range of colours and is handy for splitting doses by day.
