A glass cone dripper with a wood base

The Aurora Flute Glass Dripper is a cone dripper in the V60 style: a glass cone with a single large outlet at the bottom, brewed with a standard size 02 cone paper filter. The cone has straight vertical ribs pressed into the glass from the rim down to the outlet. It sits in a round wood base with a black silicone collar, which holds the glass centred and gives the dripper a wide, stable footprint on top of a mug or server.

The base is not glued or screwed on. Lift the cone out and the two parts can be rinsed separately, which is the main practical advantage over one-piece glass drippers where coffee oils collect in the join between glass and holder.

Brewing with it

Treat it like any size 02 cone dripper: fold the seam of the paper filter, set it in the cone, rinse it with hot water to warm the glass, then dose 15 to 20 g of coffee for a 250 to 320 g brew. Glass holds less heat than ceramic and more than plastic, so a rinse with hot water before brewing makes a difference to the first pour. The HIFLUX High Fast Folding V filters fit this dripper and drain faster than standard paper, which suits lighter Nordic roasts that benefit from a shorter contact time.

Colours

Amber is the darkest tint and gives the strongest colour, Champagne is a pale golden tint that stays close to clear, and Smoke is a neutral grey. The wood base is the same on all three.

Care

Rinse the cone after each brew and wash it by hand with a soft brush. Wipe the wood base with a damp cloth rather than soaking it, and let it dry before putting the cone back in. Avoid sudden temperature changes to the glass, such as rinsing a hot cone under cold water.
