A reusable metal filter for the AeroPress, made from 316 stainless steel. It holds back the grounds but lets the coffee oils through, so the cup comes out fuller-bodied than the same brew through a paper micro-filter. Choose Standard for AeroPress Original, Clear, Premium and Go, or XL for the AeroPress XL.

A metal filter that replaces the paper one
This is AeroPress’s own reusable filter, a single perforated disc of 316 stainless steel that sits in the filter cap exactly where a paper micro-filter would. Nothing else about the brew changes: same cap, same plunger, same recipes. AeroPress uses 316 rather than the more common 304 alloy, which is more resistant to corrosion and to the mineral deposits that hard water leaves behind.
How it changes the cup
Paper traps most of the coffee oils and some of the finest particles. Metal lets both through, so you get more body, a slightly heavier mouthfeel and a little more sediment at the bottom of the cup. Neither is better, they are different results from the same coffee.
The mesh is also more open than paper, so water moves through faster. If you switch over and the cup tastes thin or sour, grind a step or two finer than your usual paper-filter setting before changing anything else.
Standard or XL
The two sizes are not interchangeable. Standard fits the AeroPress Original, Clear, Premium, Steel, Go and Go Plus. XL fits only the AeroPress XL. If you are unsure which chamber you have, measure the filter cap: the Standard filter is 63 mm across, the XL is 74 mm.

Care
Pop the puck out as usual, then rinse the disc under running water from the underside to push any grounds back out of the mesh. An occasional soak in coffee detergent keeps oils from building up in the perforations, which is the main thing that slows a metal filter down over time.
