Weighing while it grinds

Most home grinders dose by time: you set the motor to run for a fixed number of seconds and accept whatever comes out. That works until the beans change. Older, drier coffee flows faster, a full hopper packs the chamber differently from an almost-empty one, and a darker roast grinds at a different rate than a light one, so a timed dose drifts by several tenths of a gram over a bag.

The Stark W measures the coffee as it falls and stops at the target weight instead, holding ±0.2 g. Eureka calls the system Instant Grind Weighing. It is pre-calibrated at the factory for any portafilter weight, calibrates quickly if you do need to reset it, and uses an anti-vibration mount so knocks and an uneven counter do not throw the reading off.

Stark W vs. the standard Mignon Stark

The two grinders share burrs, motor and Silent Technology housing. The W adds the scale, a larger 2.8″ touch display, the King Size grind dial and a universal fork that takes any portafilter hands-free, and it grows by 30 mm in height and roughly 600 g in weight to make room for the weighing hardware. If timed dosing has been working fine for you, the standard Stark saves money. If you single-dose, switch coffees often, or want the dose right without a separate scale on the counter, the W is the reason to spend more.

Compared with the Eureka Mignon Libra, which brought grind-by-weight to the Mignon line on 55 mm burrs, the Stark W is the faster and coarser-toothed option: bigger burrs, more throughput, and diamond-coated cutting edges that hold their geometry far longer. At 125 mm wide it still fits next to a narrow machine such as the Profitec GO 2.0 without taking over the counter.
