A 200 ml handleless porcelain cup from Loveramics’ collaboration with Dale Harris, the 2017 World Barista Champion. The shape comes from the hand-thrown cups London potter Ben Sutton made for Dale’s competition routines, now produced by Loveramics for daily café use. Sold individually, without a saucer.

From competition cup to café cup
In 2016, Dale Harris started working with London ceramicist Ben Sutton on a set of hand-thrown porcelain cups designed around the drinks in his barista competition routines. Dale went on to win the 2017 World Barista Championship in Seoul, and Loveramics later took the design into production, keeping the shape and the contrast between glazed and unglazed porcelain while making the cups durable enough for busy cafés. The collection launched in 2019. Every cup carries a backstamp with Dale’s autograph, his winning year and Ben Sutton’s potter’s stamp.
Using a handleless cup
You hold the cup around its body rather than by a handle. Loveramics makes the walls thick so a hot drink is comfortable to hold and stays warm for longer, and recommends preheating the cup standing upright. The curved inner surface helps with latte art and with keeping the crema intact, so the cup suits cappuccinos and other milk drinks poured with a fine-spouted jug such as the Subminimal FlowTip Milk Jug. The cups also stack, which saves space if you keep a set on top of your espresso machine.
About the colours
Beige is the cream colour Dale used in competition. Celadon Green is one of the two translucent celadon glazes Loveramics added when the collection launched. Charcoal belongs to the newer crackle glazes, which are formulated to form a fine network of cracks in the glaze surface, with hand-thrown style lines on each cup. Because the glazes are applied by hand, colour and glaze flow vary slightly from cup to cup. Wash Charcoal cups soon after use and do not leave them soaking, so coffee does not settle into the crackle lines.
