What the Sweet geometry does
LeBrew designed the Sweet set as its take on the Lab Sweet geometry that Ditting made popular. The aim is a grind that brings out sweetness and body with a longer finish, rather than the widest possible separation of flavours. Reviewers have found it gives clean, sweet espresso while still working well for pour over, which makes it a sensible single set for a grinder that does both.
The burrs are machined on 5-axis CNC equipment from DC53 cold work tool steel (Cr8Mo2SiV), hardened to 60 to 62 HRC and coated with a roughly 3 µm layer of TiAlN. LeBrew measures particle distribution on a Microtrac CAMSIZER X2 when developing its geometries.
LeBrew Sweet or SSP Cast Lab Sweet?
Both chase the same sweet, round cup, but they get there differently. SSP’s cast burrs keep the rough, cast texture of the original Ditting design, while the LeBrew set is fully machined with a smooth coating. One reviewer who ran both preferred the LeBrew Sweet for espresso and the SSP cast for a filter-only grinder. If you mostly brew filter, the LeBrew 64mm Filter set is the closer match. If you brew both, the Sweet is the more flexible choice, at a lower price than SSP.
Will it fit my grinder?
This is the screw-mounted version, with holes in the burr face, for grinders that bolt their 64 mm burrs to the carrier. LeBrew has tested it in the Fellow Ode (Gen 1 and Gen 2), DF64 (including the DF64V), Timemore Sculptor 064S, Option-O Lagom P64, Mazzer Super Jolly and Mini, Fiorenzato F4E and F64E, Eureka Single Dose Brew and Acaia Orbit, among others.
Two things to check: on the Fellow Ode Gen 1, only grinders from the Q4 2021 batch onward take these burrs, and the Sculptor 064 (without the S) is not on the list. Blind-burr grinders such as the Zerno Z1 need a different version.
After fitting, re-zero the grinder and expect the cup to settle over the first kilo or two as the new edges bed in.
