Product details
The metal version of OREA’s compact O1, released five years after the original V1. It is a low-bypass flat bottom dripper built from a single piece of double-walled SUS304 stainless steel, with the classic OPEN bottom that OREA’s brewers are known for.
The interior is electropolished so there is no metallic taste in the cup, and the exterior is hand-polished to a finish between brushed and mirror. RAW is entirely uncoated, which means it goes in the dishwasher and will not wear or chip over time.

Why the double wall matters
Metal brewers have a reputation for brewing cooler than plastic or ceramic ones. Steel conducts heat well, so a single-walled dripper pulls warmth out of the slurry and radiates it into the room, and the outside gets too hot to hold. OREA solved this by trapping an air pocket between an inner and an outer wall, sized to roughly the same thickness as the wall of the plastic O1. The slurry holds temperature the way it does in the plastic version, and the exterior runs around 20 °C cooler than the plastic O1’s wall during brewing, so the brewer stays comfortable in the hand.
This is also a departure from OREA’s older V2, which was machined from solid metal. The unibody sheet construction uses far less material, weighs 130 g rather than a brick, and avoids the handling quirks of the solid version.
RAW or OBSIDIAN
Both finishes share the same steel body and the same OPEN bottom geometry, so they brew identically. RAW is bare stainless with an electropolished interior and no coating anywhere, which makes it dishwasher safe and effectively unmarkable: knocks and scuffs do not expose anything, because there is nothing on top of the steel. OBSIDIAN adds a ceramic interior coating and a matte black exterior finish for the look of the old V2, but OREA advises against putting it in a dishwasher, since repeated cycles wear the coating down. If you want a brewer you can be careless with, RAW is the one.
Doses, filters and recipes
The O1 is a small brewer by design. It is happiest between 10 and 18 g of coffee, producing 160 to 300 ml, which covers a single cup well and a large one at a push. Below 8 g or above 20 g the bed geometry stops working in your favour. It takes 155 / Small papers in either flat or wave shape, and the OREA O1 filter range covers all three options OREA recommends: the Sibarist FAST Flat for speed and clarity, the thicker Orea Wave for a more forgiving pour, and the Orea Flat Type G in between.
Because it is compact and hard to damage, this is a practical travel brewer as well as an everyday one. Paired with a hand grinder such as the 1Zpresso Q Air, whose 15 to 20 g capacity matches the O1’s dose range almost exactly, the whole setup fits in a jacket pocket. It sits on most carafes and mugs with an opening of at least 5 cm, and works with V3 or narrow-shaped negotiator tools.
