Questions? We are here to help
This is a single-origin washed Caturra from Finca El Porvenir, a farm in the Palestina municipality of Huila, one of the higher and more consistently well-regarded coffee-growing micro-regions in Colombia. The farm sits at around 1,950 metres and is run by Sandra Milena Mora and her husband Hector Coy, who have been producing coffee together for more than a decade. Quo Coffee, a Swedish micro-roastery, has a long relationship with Sandra and Hector and has roasted this lot light for filter brewing.
What it tastes like
Expect a bright, tropical cup with pineapple acidity up front, balanced by the dense caramel-like sweetness of panela, Latin American unrefined cane sugar, which tastes something between brown sugar and molasses but less bitter. Orange blossom sits behind the fruit and gives the cup a delicate floral aromatic lift. It’s an unusually structured Caturra for Colombia, with a juicy acidity closer to a washed Kenyan than to the softer, chocolate-forward profile many people associate with the country. A good pick if you normally reach for African washed coffees.
How to brew it
This coffee is roasted for filter methods: V60, Kalita, AeroPress, Chemex, batch brew. The clean washed process and high-grown density reward a slightly finer grind and a careful pour, the cup opens up as it cools and the floral and fruit notes become more pronounced. It can also work as a lighter, fruit-forward espresso if you like that style, but filter is where Quo has targeted the roast.
