How the snap-on lever works
On the Barista Express and Barista Pro, the steam wand and the hot water outlet are both controlled by a round plastic knob on the side of the machine. Twisting it while holding a milk pitcher in the other hand can be awkward, especially with wet fingers. The Normcore lever slides over that knob and is held in place by 8 neodymium magnets set into its cap, giving you a handle about 11.6 cm long to push either way.
Because it sits over the original knob rather than replacing it, nothing on the machine is taken apart. Many replacement steam levers for these machines need the top panel removed so the factory knob can be swapped out; this one comes straight off again and leaves the machine as it was.
Barista Express or Barista Pro?
The knobs on the two machines are not the same size, so the two versions are not interchangeable: the Express version will not fit a Barista Pro, and the other way round. Pick the version named after your machine. If you are kitting out the same machine, the 54 mm version of the Normcore Bottomless Portafilter fits the Barista Express and Barista Pro as well.
