What the 2.0 changes

The original MOVE ends a shot on time: you set a brew time and the machine starts and stops the pump for you. That repeats well as long as grind and dose stay put, but a small change in either alters the flow rate, and the same 28 seconds puts a different amount of espresso in the cup. The MOVE 2.0 adds a second way to end the shot. Over Bluetooth it reads a compatible scale on the drip tray and stops the pump when the cup reaches the weight you have set, so the yield stays fixed while you adjust everything else.

It is also the first Profitec espresso machine with full app connectivity. The Make Coffee Yours app gives you every setting that is on the machine’s OLED display and shows the shot in real time, which makes it easier to see what a grind or dose change actually did. Beanconqueror is supported as well. Operation on the machine itself is the same as on the original MOVE, so the app is there if you want it rather than something you have to use.

Smaller and quicker to heat

Profitec reduced the brew boiler from 0.4 L to 0.27 L and took 2 cm off the height, and the smaller boiler is what brings the heat-up time down from about 9 minutes to about 7. It is still a true dual boiler: the brew and steam boilers each have their own PID and are set independently, so you can pull a shot and steam milk at the same time. If you only drink espresso, the steam boiler can be switched off and the MOVE runs as a single boiler.

Upkeep is built around reminders. A Make Coffee Yours water filter cartridge and a carbonate hardness test strip come in the box. You set the filter to your local water hardness and the machine tells you when the cartridge is due, and it does the same for cleaning and descaling. An automatic brew group cleaning program takes care of the routine group cleaning.

Choosing a grinder

Brew by weight fixes how much ends up in the cup, but the grinder still decides what tastes good in it. At this level it is worth pairing the machine with a grinder that can make small, repeatable adjustments and holds very little coffee between doses. The Option-O Lagom P80 covers both, with 80 mm flat burrs, stepless adjustment and a single dose workflow, plus variable motor speed if you want to steer lighter roasts towards more clarity.
