Built around the Nano grinder

The Nano is the smallest grinder Timemore makes, roughly 12.5 cm tall with the handle folded against the aluminium body. It uses 38 mm stainless steel conical burrs, with two ball bearings holding the grind shaft and a spring keeping the inner burr locked in position, which is what stops a grinder this small from wobbling at fine settings. The handle folds in with a pull on the centre section, and the walnut pommel unscrews to make it narrower again for packing. Adjustment is a stepped internal nut, so you count clicks from closed rather than reading a dial.

Brewing without a scale

Timemore’s own starting guide puts espresso around 6 to 12 clicks, pour-over around 15 to 24, and French press at 24 and above, which gives you somewhere to begin before you dial in your own coffee. For a travel workflow, pre-weigh 15 g of beans into each jar at home, grind one jar per cup, and pour to the markings on the Crystal Eye dripper. The 300 ml kettle is meant for transferring and pouring hot water, not for heating it, so plan on a hotel kettle, an office dispenser or a camp stove as the heat source.

Kit or grinder alone

The case earns its place if you travel often and want one thing to grab. If you are mainly after a small travel grinder and already own a dripper and something to pour with, the 1Zpresso Q Air covers similar ground on its own at a much lower price, though it does not fold. The Nano kit makes more sense as a gift or as a second setup that lives permanently in a bag or at a cabin.
