It’s a solid construction and looks good. The accordion mechanism seals quite tight. It’s probably not 100% airtight, but it’s more than good enough. There’s also room to store a small scoop and a small measuring cup on top of the seal if you don’t fill the canister to its maximum. With about 250 grams of beans, I can fit a small scoop inside of a 100 ml plastic measuring cup. Very convenient!
There are some annoyances, so I won’t reward it the full 5 stars:
1) Closing the the accordion seal is a a bit fiddly. When you close it, you apply a downward force on one side of the disc. If you don’t apply an equal force to the opposite side of the disc, it won’t seal properly or it’s going to sit in an awkward skewed position. In short, this requires me to use both hands and it becomes a bit cramped inside the canister. After a week with about 4 daily uses, it’s already much more manageable. If it softens further, I might be able to do this one handed.
2) It’s possible to trap a few beans between the rubber seal and the canister wall. This makes the seal … well … not a seal ð
3) The final annoyance is the lip on the inside of the canister catching those last few beans. It’s not a biggie, but trying to “shake out” those final beans quickly results in them going anywhere else than my measuring cup.
TL;DR: Not perfect, but it’s a solid construction with a good accordion seal. If you have big hands, you might want to reconsider. For reference: I use size 9 gloves.
