Doctor Livingstone, I presume? Yes, it felt so absurd when we found a Swedish-born family that grows cocoa in the Sambirano Valley in Madagascar. Here you are offered a tropical discovery trip through sour aromas of yellow berries and raisins followed by a strong cocoa taste.

Outside Mozambique, on the world’s fourth largest island in Madagascar, the Swedish-born Åkesson family grows cocoa according to all the rules of art. When the beans have been harvested and dried, they are shipped home to us in Malmö in large sacks. Here we roast them gently to take advantage of all the tropical flavors. It’s not really wise, Swedes who grow down in Madagascar and Swedes who roast up in Malmö. We did not know that chocolate could be such a Nordic affair!
